Travelling sustainably – a conscious and healthy tourism is essential for a secure future and our society. Guests understandably place increasing value on sustainable solutions. We also see environmentally and resource-friendly actions as an opportunity for positive change. It is not necessary to transform into a fully sustainable hotel operation overnight – what is crucial is the realization that drives action, every single big and small step, and the willingness to change. We share this responsibility – employees and guests alike. We take our corporate social responsibility seriously, and we want to use resources consciously and gently, without straining them more than necessary. Below, you have the opportunity to learn about our sustainability measures.
The 5-star superior Kastens Hotel Luisenhof in Hanover has been awarded the “DEHOGA Environmental Check” in Gold – in recognition of its continuous commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. This award honors businesses in the hospitality industry that take ecological responsibility seriously and actively uphold sustainable standards.
Significance of the Gold Level
Businesses awarded Gold meet the most stringent requirements.
They demonstrate that they go well beyond the legal minimum standards.
Guests can clearly see that the hotel operates in an environmentally and climate-friendly manner.
The “DEHOGA Environmental Check” is a continuation of the energy campaign for the hospitality industry, launched in 2006 by the DEHOGA Federal Association in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry for the Environment. The Environmental Check was specifically designed to meet the unique needs of the hospitality sector, which is primarily made up of small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition to its industry relevance and practical focus, it allows for fair and transparent comparison between participating establishments.
The Kastens Hotel Luisenhof is an awarded Eco-Profit energy business. The city, the Hannover region, and the energy provider enercity support the energy efficiency of companies through the network. As part of the Eco-Profit program, which lasts for two years and includes workshops and consultation sessions, practical measures are developed that relieve the environment while saving energy and costs.

Our sustainability measures aim to protect the environment, society, and the economy equally. We reduce energy and water consumption, rely on renewable energy sources, and use environmentally friendly products. Waste is minimized through recycling, and we prioritize purchasing regional and seasonal food products. Fair working conditions and supporting local communities are also very important to us. In short:
Organic waste is processed in a biogas facility
Consistent waste separation throughout the entire hotel operation
Regional dishes offered in collaboration with local businesses
Close-knit supplier network
Increasing number of vegetarian and vegan dishes
Avoidance of plastic > use of bulk packaging
Our energy-related sustainability efforts focus on reducing energy consumption and transitioning to renewable energy sources. This includes the use of energy-efficient lighting, such as LED lamps, and modern heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Solar power and other renewable energy sources are increasingly being integrated to reduce CO₂ emissions. In summary:
Energy-saving light sources
Use of natural daylight (electric lighting is avoided during daylight hours)
Combined heat and power plant (CHP) for generating electricity and heat (both electric and thermal output: 20,000 kW)
Water-saving faucets
Regular cleaning, maintenance, and servicing of equipment and facilities to ensure efficiency
Use of motion detectors
Energy-efficient window glazing
District heating system for space heating
Our sustainability measures in hotel operations include a variety of approaches to conserving the environment and resources.
