“Padam … padam …” – a heartbeat. Footsteps echo on the pavement. A melody you can’t forget. “Je t’aime,” someone whispers from the side… Under the motto PADAM! – inspired by Édith Piaf’s legendary chanson – the 2026 Opera Ball celebrates the City of Love: a journey through French elegance and bohemian charm, baroque splendor, the Belle Époque, and the Parisian spirit of the 1950s.

In a series of performances, star guest Katharine Mehrling meets the ensemble of the State Opera. As tradition dictates, the glittering opening is led by the debutantes from the Bothe Dance School. At midnight, the dancers of the Hanover State Ballet present a choreography by Ballet Director Goyo Montero. Chansons and contemporary hits, musette and diverse dance music come together in imaginative settings designed with French flair, featuring culinary highlights from the opera house’s fine catering service, and performances by the Thilo Wolf Big Band, the Lower Saxony State Orchestra, DJ Jueri, and drag queen Gisela Kloppke – creating an unforgettable highlight of the 2026 cultural calendar.
